Hello!
Thank you for stopping by! I’m Lisa Gerber. Since this is a one-woman shop, my personal and business beliefs are woven together. I believe in a world that values the lives and experiences of all marginalized people. I believe in a world that actively works to do better, to amend our wrongs, and to create a more just, safe, and caring space for all. I also believe that climate change is real, and I am committed to protecting natural resources and the environment through mindful, sustainable practices.
I am a handweaver who brings together precision, color, and craft to create cloth that honors both traditional and modern textile design. With an undergraduate degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in geomorphology, I have always been drawn to pattern, structure, and the hidden beauty of efficient systems. Weaving became my medium when I set out to make my own fabric for sewing garments, and quickly discovered a lifelong obsession.
I learned to sew and knit from the women in my family, carrying forward a lineage of making that shapes my approach to craft. My work is deeply connected to the principles of slow fashion, and I choose only natural fibers for their integrity and sustainability. At the loom, I find a balance of complexity and creativity — a space where my love of math, myth, pattern, and color converge.
When I am not weaving, I lead a community-engaged learning program at Cornell University. The rhythms of making, weaving, and community all inform one another, grounding my work in both connection and care. Each piece I create reflects not only hours of craft, but a philosophy of mindful making and lasting beauty. I am also deeply interested in strengthening the domestic supply chain for wool and advancing small-batch manufacturing as a way to support sustainable, community-based fashion.
Living and working in Ithaca, I weave on a Leclerc floor loom and a production AVL loom, aptly named Penelope, honoring the patience, resilience, and artistry at the heart of this timeless craft.
